The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), in collaboration with Catch, successfully convened the Bharat Spices Conclave 2026 at PHD House in New Delhi on 17 April.
The high-level gathering brought together government officials, industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to deliberate on strategies for strengthening India’s spice sector and expanding its global presence.
The conclave focused on critical areas such as enhancing the entire spice value chain, unlocking new export markets, driving innovation and sustainable practices, and developing a concrete roadmap to double the size of India’s spice economy. With active participation from stakeholders across the spectrum, the event served as a dynamic platform to align efforts toward positioning India as a dominant player in the global spices landscape.
Shri Chirag Paswan, Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, served as the Chief Guest. He recalled India’s rich historical legacy in the global spice trade and urged the industry to explore opportunities beyond conventional uses, particularly in health and wellness segments. Paswan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ease of doing business and invited stakeholders to share recommendations for further policy support.
India, which produces more than 60 of the 109 spices recognised worldwide and exports to over 200 countries, holds immense untapped potential. The conclave emphasised shifting from a volume-based approach to a value-driven model, transforming spices into premium products that extend beyond traditional culinary uses into nutraceuticals, wellness, and functional foods.
The conclave received support from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). It was partnered by Catch and received association support from the All India Food Processors’ Association, Biological Agri Solutions Association of India (BASAI), and the Federation of Indian Spice Stakeholders.
By fostering constructive discussions and actionable insights, the Bharat Spices Conclave 2026 has laid a strong foundation for the Indian spice industry’s next phase of growth. Stakeholders expressed confidence that the collective focus on innovation, sustainability, quality excellence, and value addition will help realise the ambitious goal of doubling the spice economy while elevating India’s position as a trusted global supplier of premium spice products.
The event successfully turned shared aspirations into a practical vision, reinforcing the spice sector’s role as a vital contributor to India’s economic identity on the world stage.
