At the World Inclusion Conference India 2026, Diplomatist Magazine interacted with Dr. Devesh Kumar Sharma, Associate Professor of Business Communication at Galgotias University, to understand how higher education institutions can create truly inclusive learning environments. Dr. Sharma explained how inclusivity at Galgotias extends beyond admissions to encompass academic support, diversity, scholarships, global exposure and career outcomes.
When asked what inclusivity means in today’s higher education landscape, Dr. Sharma explained that it is about creating an environment where every student feels valued, respected and empowered to realise their potential, irrespective of their background or identity. He emphasised that inclusion is reflected not only in institutional policies but also in everyday campus life.
Speaking about diversity, he highlighted the importance of creating a safe and welcoming environment for students from all walks of life, including members of the LGBTQ+ community. According to him, universities have a responsibility to foster respect, empathy and equal opportunities, enabling every learner to participate confidently in academic and campus life.
The conversation then turned to student success. Drawing from his own teaching experience, Dr. Sharma shared inspiring examples of students who had transformed their lives through higher education, demonstrating that with the right guidance, mentorship and opportunities, learners from diverse backgrounds can excel academically and professionally.
Discussing the university’s academic offerings, he explained that Galgotias University has built a multidisciplinary ecosystem with programmes across engineering, business, law, health sciences, liberal arts, agriculture, media, hospitality, pharmacy and emerging technologies. The institution places a strong emphasis on industry-oriented learning, innovation and research, ensuring that students graduate with both academic knowledge and practical skills.
When asked about career opportunities, Dr. Sharma highlighted the university’s robust placement ecosystem, noting that students benefit from strong industry partnerships, internship opportunities and career development initiatives. He explained that the university works closely with leading national and international organisations to prepare students for a rapidly evolving global workforce.
Internationalisation, he observed, has become another defining pillar of modern education. He spoke about opportunities available to students through international collaborations, academic exchanges and scholarships that enable deserving learners to pursue higher studies at universities abroad. Such initiatives, he said, broaden students’ academic horizons while equipping them with global perspectives and cross-cultural competencies.
