The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi is set to bring a vibrant slice of Thailand to the capital with the Namaste Thailand Festival 2026, scheduled from 27–29 March.

Now in its seventh edition, the festival has evolved into a significant cultural platform that celebrates the deepening ties between India and Thailand—spanning tourism, culture, and economic engagement.

Addressing a press conference ahead of the festival, Ms. Kanokporn Kunnawattana, Minister Counsellor at the Royal Thai Embassy, highlighted the growing people-to-people connections between the two countries, particularly reflected in tourism trends.

“Last year, we had almost 2.5 million Indian tourists coming to Thailand. It was a record—a 17 percent increase from the previous year—and we truly want to celebrate this milestone,” she said.

Highlighting the broader vision behind the festival, she emphasised its role as a cultural bridge between the two nations.
“We want to make Thailand grow even more fond in Indian hearts, while also showing Thai people how much India appreciates Thai culture. This mutual admiration is what truly connects our societies.”

A Festival Rooted in Culture and Innovation
For the first time, the festival will be held over a full weekend, offering visitors a more immersive experience. Among the highlights is a mini Thai pavilion (Sala Thai)—a contemporary interpretation of traditional elevated Thai homes that reflects Thailand’s architectural heritage.

Another unique addition is the “Love Garden”, an artistic installation conceptualized by the Ambassador, featuring vibrant floral elements and creative design to symbolise warmth, friendship, and shared cultural affinity.

The festival will host a rich lineup of cultural performances, including the classical Khon masked dance, Thai umbrella dance, and contemporary showcases, alongside interactive workshops such as indigo dyeing and umbrella painting. Visitors can also engage with innovative AI-based activities, including a virtual Muay Thai experience.

Beyond Culture: Showcasing Economic Partnerships
While cultural exchange remains central, the 2026 edition expands its focus to include Thailand’s growing economic footprint in India. Representatives from leading Thai companies across sectors such as construction, energy, wholesale retail, and automotive components will participate in business discussions, sharing their experiences in the Indian market.

“Thailand is not only about food and culture—it is also about innovation, investment, and strong economic partnerships with India,” Ms. Kunnawattana noted.

The festival will also host Thai entrepreneurs and emerging brands from Bangkok, reflecting a forward-looking approach to bilateral collaboration.

A Culinary Journey Through Thailand
Food continues to be a major draw, with visitors set to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine ranging from street food favourites like Pad Thai and basil chicken (Kapow) to refined culinary offerings.

A special highlight this year is an exclusive Chef’s Table experience in collaboration with BANG, led by Michelin-starred chef Garima Arora.

“We want to present not only traditional Thai cuisine, but also modern interpretations of Thai gastronomy,” she explained.

Honouring Heritage and Legacy
This year’s festival will also pay tribute to the cultural contributions of Queen Sirikit, particularly her efforts in preserving and promoting Thai arts, textiles, and traditional performances.

An exhibition of Chut Thai (traditional Thai attire) will be featured, coinciding with Thailand’s nomination of these costumes for recognition under UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience Thai attire through an AI-powered photo booth, blending tradition with technology.

Music, Interaction and Shared Celebration
The festival promises a dynamic entertainment lineup, including performances by Thai artists and a unique fusion of Indian and Thai music, where traditional instruments will blend with contemporary DJ sets.

Interactive sessions, cooking competitions, quizzes, and a lucky draw offering tickets to Thailand further add to the excitement.
Reflecting on the broader significance of the festival, Ms. Kunnawattana remarked:
“This festival is not just an event—it is a celebration of friendship, creativity, and shared cultural joy.”

Strengthening a People-Centric Partnership
As India and Thailand continue to deepen their engagement across sectors, the Namaste Thailand Festival stands as a testament to the enduring strength of cultural diplomacy.

Bringing together tradition, innovation, and community, the festival not only celebrates Thailand in India—but also reflects a shared future built on mutual appreciation and connection.
