At the 20th edition of the CII India–Africa Business Conclave, the sense of history and momentum was palpable. Over the last two decades, this platform has grown into one of the most vital spaces for dialogue, collaboration, and trust-building between India and Africa.
Opening the Conclave, Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), struck a note of pride and optimism. “This conclave has, over the last two decades, emerged as one of the most important and impactful platforms for fostering dialogue, partnerships, and trust between India and Africa,” he said, welcoming dignitaries, ministers, business leaders, and delegates from across the globe.
This year’s conclave carries special weight—not only because it marks the 20th milestone edition but also because of its scale and breadth. With more than 1,600 delegates, representation from 64 African countries, and participation from 17 non-African partner nations, the gathering has set a new benchmark. As Mr. Banerjee highlighted, “Such strong engagement underlines the growing relevance of India–Africa economic cooperation in today’s world.”
Building on a Strong Legacy
Supported by India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Conclave has been instrumental in translating dialogue into real projects. Over the years, it has helped spark joint ventures, deepen bilateral partnerships, and open pathways for cooperation in emerging industries.
Reflecting on this growth, Mr. Banerjee noted, “The progress we have seen is a true reflection of the commitment on both sides to strengthen this enduring relationship.”
From Policy to Practice
One of the cornerstones of the Conclave’s success is its ability to go beyond speeches and policy discussions. The B2B portal, which facilitates structured business-to-business meetings, has already enabled more than 600 one-to-one engagements this year. “This strong focus on business linkages complements the larger policy dialogue and ensures that our cooperation translates into practical outcomes,” Banerjee highlighted.
Africa and India in a Changing Global Context
This year’s deliberations also intersect with a shifting global order. With South Africa currently holding the G20 presidency, India–Africa cooperation has assumed a larger role in shaping global governance. Building on India’s own G20 presidency, the two regions are working together on innovation-led growth, digital transformation, education technology, financial technology, and agriculture.
Food and agriculture, in particular, emerged as a focal point for the Conclave. “Given Africa’s enormous potential in this sector and India’s expertise, this is an area where partnerships can deliver large-scale impact—ensuring food security, enhancing value chains, and generating employment across both regions,” Banerjee remarked.
