On the evening of July 30, 2025, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in New Delhi hosted a grand gala reception at The Leela Palace to mark the 26th anniversary of the enthronement of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The occasion brought together a distinguished gathering of diplomats, Indian government officials, business leaders, cultural representatives, and members of civil society, united in celebration of Morocco’s remarkable journey and its growing ties with India.
Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Welcoming the guests, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Maliki, Ambassador of Morocco to India, noted that the celebration was both a “moment of national pride” and a time for “reflection, on the remarkable journey our nation has undertaken under the wise and visionary leadership of His Majesty.”
In his address, Ambassador Maliki highlighted the transformative reforms Morocco has witnessed under King Mohammed VI’s leadership. From infrastructure and renewable energy to food security, digital innovation, transportation, and social mobility, Morocco’s progress has been both broad and deep. The Ambassador underscored that this evolution has been achieved “while remaining deeply rooted in our identity and cultural heritage.”
He also emphasised Morocco’s global outlook: “Morocco remains steadfast in its role as a responsible actor in regional and global peace, dialogue, and cooperation.” This balanced approach of modernisation and tradition, development and diplomacy has positioned Morocco as a key player on the African continent and beyond.
The evening served not only to celebrate Morocco’s national journey but also to honour the growing strategic partnership between Morocco and India. Ambassador Maliki pointed out the multi-faceted nature of this relationship, which spans trade, investment, education, culture, and security. “These principles guide our relations with India—a country with which we share longstanding ties of friendship, mutual trust, and shared vision,” he said.
He also praised the increasing people-to-people exchanges, academic collaborations, and business ties, stating: “Thanks to the leadership of our respective Heads of State, and the convergence of our national interests, Morocco and India are engaging more meaningfully across traditional and emerging sectors.”
The reception also featured, for the first time in New Delhi, a special Moroccan artistic performance, offering a window into the rich cultural heritage of Morocco—rooted in African, Arab, Berber, Mediterranean, and Islamic traditions. The showcase symbolised the nation’s openness and its dedication to cross-cultural engagement.
In a heartfelt moment, Ambassador Maliki took a pause from diplomatic discourse to acknowledge his personal support system: “Allow me, on a personal note, to thank my wife, who has stood by me with unwavering support through all challenges. I also extend my gratitude to my two daughters, my little princesses, for their understanding and strength through the demands of diplomatic life.”
He also took the opportunity to bid farewell to fellow diplomats who are concluding their tenure in India, wishing them success in their future endeavours and thanking them for their camaraderie and service.
In closing, the Ambassador expressed appreciation to the Indian partners who continue to engage with Morocco across sectors and platforms: “To our Indian friends, from government, business, civil society, media, and academia, thank you for your continued engagement and support. Your friendship is deeply valued.”
Reaffirming Morocco’s commitment to deepening ties, he concluded with an optimistic call for continued collaboration: “Let us continue to work together toward peace, prosperity, and progress, for our nations, our peoples, and the wider world.”
