The Ethiopian Embassy in New Delhi has launched a tree planting and advocacy programme to promote Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s green legacy initiatives, the world’s largest Afforestation program and the country’s Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategy, aimed at fostering a sustainable and resilient future for Ethiopia.
In his inaugural address, Ambassador Fesseha Shawel emphasised the significance of the Green Legacy Initiative, which was launched in June 2019 and reflects Ethiopia’s commitment to combating climate change and environmental degradation through innovative approaches. The initiative focuses on agroforestry, urban greening, and integrated resource management, showcasing Ethiopia’s dedication to creating a greener future.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from embassy staff and distinguished guests, including senior Indian government officials, diplomats, tourism representatives, think tank, media personnel, and influential figures from various sectors.
This initiative not only reinforces Ethiopia’s international commitments, such as the Paris Climate Agreement and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, but also positions the country as a leader in environmental sustainability on the African continent. The Green Legacy Initiative stands out as a pivotal effort in Ethiopia’s ongoing journey towards a sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
