In a vibrant confluence of diplomacy, culture, and culinary delight, Europe Day 2025 was celebrated in New Delhi on May 9th, bringing the essence of Europe to the heart of India. With flags fluttering, tables brimming with continental flavours, and conversations echoing shared ambitions, the evening was a powerful testament to the enduring and evolving partnership between the European Union and India. The event, held with characteristic European charm and Indian warmth, saw enthusiastic participation from all the embassies and high commissions of EU member states, each contributing to the tapestry of unity in diversity that defines the EU ethos.

Hosted by the European Union Ambassador to India, H.E. Hervé Delphin, the celebrations welcomed a gathering of diplomats, members of the Indian business community, cultural dignitaries, and senior government officials. The evening stood out as a vibrant celebration of cross-continental collaboration, dialogue, and goodwill.

Adding a special touch to the occasion, Ambassador Hervé Delphin spoke of the EU’s growing ties with India through a thoughtful and engaging address. His words carried a unique twist—he concluded his speech in Hindi, a gesture that was warmly received and earned spontaneous applause from the audience. “EU (European Union) aur Bharat milkar samriddhi aur vikas ki nayi kahani likhenge,” he said, meaning “Together, the EU and India will write a new story of prosperity and development.” His message struck a chord with the audience, including the Chief Guest for the evening, India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar.

A major highlight of the celebrations was the delightful array of European cuisines served at the venue. Each EU country was allotted a table where their signature dishes were presented, offering guests a culinary tour across the continent. From French cheeses and Spanish tapas to Italian pastas and German sausages, the spread was a true tribute to Europe’s rich gastronomic heritage. The guests thoroughly enjoyed the delicacies and savoured the cultural essence behind each offering.

Europe Day in India once again reaffirmed the strength of the EU-India partnership, grounded in shared democratic values, sustainable development goals, and a mutual commitment to peace and progress.
