The Embassy of the State of Palestine in New Delhi served as the venue for the Press Conference of Diplomatic Nite 2024, scheduled to take place on 23rd November at the Travancore Palace, New Delhi. The press conference, held on 22nd November, was attended by diplomats, dignitaries, honorary consuls, and media representatives.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Linda Hawke, Publisher of Diplomatist Magazine. She reflected on the illustrious journey of Diplomatist over the years, emphasising its commitment to fostering diplomatic dialogue, international collaboration, and thought leadership.
Dr. Abed Elrazeg Abu Jazer, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the State of Palestine in India warmly welcomed the attendees and extended his gratitude to Diplomatist for choosing the Embassy as the venue for this press conference. In his remarks, he lauded the crucial role of honorary consuls in strengthening bilateral ties and promoting goodwill between nations. He emphasised that honorary consuls are vital bridge-builders who complement diplomatic missions in addressing emerging global challenges.
Adding to the discussion, Ambassador V.B. Soni (Retd.), a distinguished voice in diplomacy, elaborated on the growing responsibilities of honorary consuls in today’s interconnected world. He highlighted their evolving duties in fostering trade, cultural exchange, and people-to-people connections.
Mr. K.L. Ganju, Honorary Consul General for the Union of Comoros and President of the Honorary Consular Corps Diplomatique-India, further enriched the discourse by discussing the transformative role of honorary consuls in advancing strategic international partnerships.
A highlight of the event was the unveiling of a special report titled “Honorary Consuls in India: Briefing Nations, Strengthening Diplomacy,” which explores the pivotal contributions of honorary consuls in India’s diplomatic landscape. The report, a collaborative effort by Diplomatist, received widespread appreciation for its in-depth analysis and relevance.
To honour their dedication and service, a few distinguished honorary consuls were felicitated during the event including Hon’ble Mr. K.L. Ganju, Honorary Consul General of the Union of Comoros, Hon’ble Major Guneet Chaudhary (Retd.), Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic, Hon’ble Vishal P. Mehta, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Djibouti and Hon’ble Chitwan Malhotra, Honorary Consul of Zimbabwe.
The event concluded on a high note with a vote of thanks delivered by the organising committee, who expressed gratitude to the Embassy of the State of Palestine, the dignitaries, and the media for their participation. Guests were invited to attend Diplomatic Nite 2024 on 23rd November at Travancore Palace, where the annual celebration of diplomacy, culture, and international cooperation will continue.
