On a cool November evening, the Travancore Palace in New Delhi transformed into a hub of cultural diplomacy, celebrating the 29th year of Diplomatist Magazine. Diplomatic Nite 2024, held on 23rd November, was a mesmerizing confluence of art, culture, and international friendship. The grandeur of the event was matched only by the vision it represented—strengthening solidarity and fostering meaningful dialogue among nations.
As the clock struck six, the iconic white façade of Travancore Palace was bathed in vibrant hues, creating a visual spectacle that left guests awestruck. The evening began on a harmonious note with the enchanting tunes of the violin played by artists from the Delhi School of Music. Their soulful symphonies set the tone for what would become an unforgettable night. Guests arrived to a warm reception, captivated by the regal atmosphere and the melody that resonated across the venue.
The evening’s chief guest, Prof. K. V. Thomas, Special Representative of the Government of Kerala at New Delhi, graced the occasion with his presence. Prof. Thomas expressed his admiration for Diplomatist Magazine, commending its remarkable journey over 29 years. In his speech, he lauded the magazine’s pivotal role in bridging nations through thought-provoking narratives and dynamic initiatives.
Linda Hawke, Publisher of Diplomatist, extended a heartfelt welcome to the distinguished gathering. Reflecting on the magazine’s illustrious journey, she spoke about its commitment to amplifying voices that matter and fostering international partnerships. Her words set the stage for an evening dedicated to celebrating the spirit of diplomacy and collaboration.
One of the event’s highlights was the grand unveiling of Diplomatist’s annual edition, themed “India: A Resonant Voice for Global South Solidarity”. The annual edition was unveiled by Linda Hawke, Guest Editor Mr. Vikas Singh, Kanchi BATRA, Managing Editor and Dr Sunil Sukumaran, Editor in Chief, amidst applause from the audience. The edition highlights India’s growing leadership in fostering unity among the Global South, resonating with the event’s overarching theme of solidarity.
Adding to the intellectual offerings, the IETO Coffee Table Book titled “Beyond Borders: IETO’s Journey of Trade and Diplomacy” was also released by Dr Asif Iqbal, President, IETO, featuring compelling narratives on India’s expanding economic diplomacy undertaken by the organisation.
A day earlier, during a press conference, a few Honorary Consuls were felicitated at the Embassy of the State of Palestine, New Delhi. The book “Honorary Consuls: Bridging Nations, Strengthening Diplomacy” was unveiled by Mr. KL Ganju, Honorary Consul of Comoros, President, Honorary Consular Corps Diplomatique – India (HCCD – India) along with Linda Hawke. The felicitation of honorary consuls was an acknowledgement of their role as bridges between nations.
Diplomatic Nite reached a crescendo with a spectacular Power Walk by foreign ambassadors, donning exquisite traditional Indian attire. The dignitaries included: H.E. Ms. Mateja Vodeb Ghosh, Ambassador of Slovenia to India, Amb Bizunesh, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Ethiopia to India, Mr. Thabang Linus Kholumo, DCM, High Commission of Lesotho, H.E. Mr. Reuben Gauci, High Commissioner of Malta to India, H.E. Slobodan Uzunov, Ambassador of North Macedonia and H.E. Mr. Fleming Duarte, Ambassador of Paraguay to India. Their confident strides and the cultural symbolism of their attire underscored the event’s essence—unity in diversity. This segment was met with resounding applause, leaving an indelible mark on all attendees.
Adding a vibrant touch to the evening, the Latin American band Abakorao took the stage and captivated the audience with their electrifying performance. Their rhythmic beats and soulful melodies brought the essence of Latin America to life, creating a lively atmosphere that had guests swaying to the music.
The evening was further enriched by the soulful performances of talented artists Reuben Israel and Ssofia, who mesmerised the guests with their captivating songs. Their melodious voices and heartfelt renditions added an emotional depth to the event, leaving the audience spellbound.
Diplomatist Industry Awards were presented to four outstanding achievers who have excelled in their respective fields. The Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred upon Shri Rajnikant Devidas Shroff, Founder & Chairman Emeritus of UPL Ltd., for his remarkable contributions to the industry. While he could not join due to health reasons, the award was received on his behalf by Mr. Rajesh Gupta from UPL. Excellence in Global Logistics & Supply Chain Management award was given to Mr. Vishal P. Mehta, CEO of Rushabh Sealink and Logistic Pvt Ltd and Honorary Consul of Djibouti, for his innovative leadership in the logistics sector. The Excellence in Infrastructure Development Award was presented to Mr. Venkita Venkat, Chairman of VPVV Techno Construction. Although Mr. Venkat was unable to attend the event, the award was received on his behalf by Mr. Vijesh, acknowledging the company’s outstanding contributions to transformative infrastructure projects. Lastly, Captain Agri Machinery EXIM LLP was celebrated as the Best Agri-Tech Solutions Provider, with Mr. Rajiv Wahi, CEO of International Business, collecting the award on behalf of the organisation. These awards reflect the unwavering commitment and excellence of the recipients in driving progress and innovation in their domains.
The evening also featured 29 lucky draw winners, who walked away with exclusive gifts sponsored by the event’s partners. Adding to the opulence, two luxury cars from LEXUS were prominently displayed, drawing admiration from the crowd.
Diplomatic Nite was not just a feast for the palate but also for the eyes. A stunning exhibition of art adorned the venue, with live paintings by students from the Indraprastha School. The students’ artistic interpretations of international leaders added a unique and creative dimension to the event.
The evening’s gastronomic journey was equally impressive. Cocktails were generously sponsored by Radico Khaitan, Sula Wines, and various international partners, offering guests a taste of speciality wines, rum, and vodka from across the globe. The international kiosk, supported by country partners, became a popular spot for mingling and savouring global flavours.
