On April 11, 2025, a panel discussion on “The Trump Revolution in U.S. Foreign Policy: Implications for India and the World” took place at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Chaired by Ambassador Bhaswati Mukherjee, the discussion focused on the aggressive foreign policy of the United States under President Trump, most notably reflected in the form of tariffs imposed on goods imported from other countries.

Speakers included Dr. Harsh V. Pant, Vice President, Studies & Foreign Policy, ORF, and Dr. Sachin Chaturvedi, Director General, RIS. Dr. Chaturvedi emphasised that “India should reconsider its approach to economic security. Finance and technology need to be preserved, and multilateralism, along with the WTO, has fallen by the wayside.”

Dr. Pant elaborated on the domestic transformation within the United States, stating, “The domestic political revolution in America is significant. Trump has restructured how American domestic politics is perceived. The idea of the collective West is gone and cannot be revived anytime soon.”

The introductory remarks were delivered by Dr. Manish Dabhade, Founder of The Indian Futures and Associate Professor of Diplomacy at JNU. The discussion was followed by a lively round of Q&A, with the audience comprising journalists, students, and representatives from think tanks and other organizations.
