Speaking to Kanchi Batra, Managing Editor of Diplomatist, H.E. Mr. Fleming Duarte, Ambassador of Paraguay to India, highlighted Paraguay’s pivotal role in the stevia market.
“Stevia is a good substitute for sugar, and Paraguay is a leader in the production of stevia. It is highly recommended for diabetic patients as well. There is a requirement for investment in a factory for the crystallization process, which certainly could be fulfilled by Indian enterprises,” stated Ambassador Duarte.
The Ambassador’s comments highlight a significant opportunity for collaboration between Paraguay and India. As the demand for natural sweeteners rises, establishing a crystallization factory with Indian investment could greatly enhance production efficiency and meet global demand. Such a partnership would not only boost the stevia industry but also strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
The potential for stevia extends beyond its health benefits. Environmentally, stevia cultivation requires less land and water compared to sugarcane, making it a more sustainable option. This aspect is crucial in an era where sustainable agricultural practices are becoming increasingly important.
