In an event marking the launch of the IS EG Halal India initiative, H.E. Mr. Wael Mohamed Awad Hamed, Ambassador of Egypt to India highlighted the deep-rooted and evolving relationship between the two nations. The event underscored the strategic importance of their cooperation in the area of food security, particularly in the halal meat sector.

The Ambassador began by reflecting on the rich history of relations between Egypt and India, which dates back to the 1950s and 1960s. This period saw the forging of significant alliances and partnerships, laying a strong foundation for contemporary collaborations. The shared history is marked by achievements in various fields, including music, culture, and diplomacy, which have naturally evolved over the decades.

Acknowledging the efforts of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ambassador emphasised their roles in strengthening bilateral ties. Their vision and dedication have been instrumental in fostering a deeper connection between Egypt and India. The Ambassador recalled his productive meetings with both leaders, where they discussed the complexities and potential of the bilateral relationship. These discussions served as a catalyst for public debate and highlighted the importance of sustained cooperation.

A significant milestone in the relationship was reached during the G-20 summit in September 2023, where both nations announced their commitment to establishing a new era of strategic cooperation. This cooperation extends beyond diplomatic interactions to tangible, legal agreements with profound implications for both countries,” stressed Amb Wael Mohamed Awad Hamed.

One of the most notable events was Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Egypt in June 2023, which solidified strategic cooperation, particularly in the critical area of food security. This agreement is not just about the exchange of goods but encompasses a broader vision of mutual support and development.

The Ambassador also highlighted the significance of this event as a testament to their commitment to addressing challenges and ensuring that the trade of food products is streamlined and efficient. The goal is to eliminate market confusion and chaos, ensuring that both Egyptian and Indian consumers benefit from the cooperation.

By promoting Indian exports to Egypt, the two nations hope to expand their markets and create new opportunities for growth and prosperity. The Ambassador expressed confidence that the collaboration would yield significant benefits, aiming to increase the import of Indian meat while ensuring it meets the highest ethical standards.
