Africa Day 2024 Celebration in New Delhi

Africa Day 2024 was celebrated in New Delhi on 25th June at the Taj Palace Hotel. The event was hosted by H.E. Mr. Ermindo Augusto Ferreira, High Commissioner of the Republic of Mozambique and Dean of African Group Heads of Missions, H.E. Mr. Alem Tsehaye Woldemariam, Ambassador of Eritrea to India and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in India.

H.E. Mrs. Jacqueline Mukangira, High Commissioner of Rwanda to India also delivered her remarks at the reception, congratulating everyone on this significant occasion. Africa Day holds great importance for Africans, celebrating the unity and progress of the continent.

The Chief Guest at the event was Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister for External Affairs, Government of India. In his speech, Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the rapidly growing bilateral relations between India and the African continent since the Modi Government came to power in 2014. He emphasised that these relations are currently at their best. Dr. Jaishankar stated that Africa is a top priority for India and mentioned that during its G-20 Presidency, India made Africa a member of the G-20 Group, recognising Africa’s global importance.

The programme included musical and dance performances by groups from India and Mozambique, which were enjoyed by all attendees. The large gathering included High Commissioners, Ambassadors, Diplomats, Government Officials, VIP Guests, and industry leaders.

The event featured wines and delicacies from both Africa and India, contributing to a delightful evening.
