25 Years of India-Dominican Republic Friendship

The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in New Delhi commemorated the 25th anniversary of Diplomatic Relations with India at a reception hosted at Hotel Imperial on May 7, 2024. Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

During his address, Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the significant contributions of former late Ambassador Hans Dannenberg Castellanos, who established the local mission and served as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps. He also underscored the growing trade and economic relations between the two nations, expressing gratitude to the Dominican Republic authorities for their support during India’s Operation Indravati, which facilitated the evacuation of Indian nationals from Haiti to the Dominican Republic amidst a political crisis.

Bilateral trade between India and the Dominican Republic has seen remarkable growth in recent years, with the trade balance favouring the Dominican Republic. Two-way trade surged to US$ 959 million during the financial year 2021-22, marking a 106% increase. Indian exports witnessed a 48% growth, reaching US$ 310 million, while Dominican exports surged by 152% to US$ 649 million.

The event attracted a diverse audience, including foreign diplomats, corporate representatives, officials from the Ministry of External Affairs, retired Indian Ambassadors, and officials from Chambers of Commerce.
