The 5th Agri Business Conclave, held at the Ethiopian Embassy in New Delhi on 28th February, served as a platform to discuss the business potential in the agricultural sector and foster partnerships between India and the world. The event featured prominent speakers and experts who shared insights and perspectives on various aspects of agricultural development and cooperation.
The conclave brought together key stakeholders and industry leaders to discuss pertinent issues and explore opportunities in the agricultural sector. Organized by Diplomatist Magazine, in collaboration with the Embassy of Ethiopia in India, the conclave saw support from entities including IFFCO, Krishi Rasayan Exports Pvt. Ltd., Captain Tractors, ACE, and AgHub. The event witnessed significant participation from diplomats representing agricultural economies and Indian industry leaders.
The conclave commenced with Hon. Melaku Alebe, Minister of Trade and Industry of Ethiopia, delivering the keynote address. He highlighted the vast business opportunities available in Ethiopia’s agricultural sector and urged industry stakeholders to consider investing in the country. The welcome remarks were given by H.E. Mr. Demeke Atnafu, Ambassador of Ethiopia to India, and Linda Hawke, Publisher of Diplomatist Magazine.
Linda Hawke felicitated all the speakers with a plant symbolising the commitment to sustainability. This gesture underscored the importance of environmental consciousness in agricultural practices.
Dr. Tarunendu Singh, Chief of Agricultural Services at IFFCO, provided insights into nano fertilizers for sustainable crop production and maintaining soil health.
A special highlight of the conclave was the release of the Agri Special Edition by Hon. Melaku. This publication contained insights and analyses on current agricultural trends, policies, and innovations.
In the first Panel Discussion titled “Fostering Sustainable Partnerships: India and Global South Cooperation in Agriculture” panellists included representatives from various countries and organizations, such as Mr. Michiel van Erkel from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in India, Mr. Cedrick Charles Crowley from the High Commission of South Africa in India, Mr. Rajiv Wahi from Captain Agri Machinery Exim LLP, Mr. Vijay Nadiminti from AgHub, and Prof. KC Bansal, Former Director of the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (ICAR), India. The discussion focussed on exploring collaborative opportunities in agriculture between India and countries of the Global South.
Ms. Tea Pirih, Economic Counsellor at the Embassy of Slovenia in India, and Prof. Moni Madaswamy, Former Director General of the National Informatics Center, Government of India, delivered expert lectures on pollinators & agriculture and Ushering in a New Growth Wave: From Artificial Intelligence for Agricultural Intelligence, respectively.
The second Panel Discussion on India’s Technological Prowess: Catalyzing Agricultural Growth in G77 Countries brought together speakers including H.E. Mr. Leonard Mengezi, High Commissioner of Malawi to India, Mr. Ashok Anantharaman, COO of ACE, Mr. Hannington Kananura from the Uganda High Commission, Dr. S P Sharma, Chief Economist and Deputy Secretary General of PHDCCI, and Prof. Dolly Wattal Dhar, Dean of Sharda School of Agricultural Sciences, Sharda University. The discussion centred on India’s technological capabilities and their potential to drive agricultural growth in G77 countries.
To commemorate a significant milestone in the Indian dairy industry, Diplomatist Magazine gave all delegates a piece from Amul’s diverse range of products. This gesture celebrated Amul’s 50 glorious years and served as a reminder of its enduring legacy in shaping India’s dairy industry. It added a touch of sweetness to the delegates’ experience, reflecting the spirit of quality and reliability synonymous with the Amul brand.
