On 12th September 2023, the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in India marked the celebration of the Ethiopian New Year with great fervour and enthusiasm.
The event was graced by distinguished heads of missions from various African countries and notable representatives, including H.E. Mr. Alem Tsehaye Woldemariam, Ambassador of the Embassy of the State of Eritrea and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, H.E. Mrs. Rosette Mossi Nyamale, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo to India and Dean of African Group Heads of Mission and Mr. Puneet Kundal, Joint Secretary (Eastern and Southern Africa), Ministry of External Affairs, India.
Ambassador of Ethiopia to India elucidated the uniqueness of the Ethiopian calendar, which trails seven years behind the globally recognized Gregorian calendar. As per their calendar, Ethiopia has embraced the year 2016, presenting a distinctive temporal perspective.
During his address, he extended a warm invitation to the Indian business community, encouraging them to explore opportunities and consider investment ventures in Ethiopia. He emphasised the country’s potential and its welcoming atmosphere for foreign businesses.
He also encouraged business people and travellers to visit Ethiopia as the country offers various type of tourism such as cultural, natural, educational, religious, spiritual, heritage and sport tourism. He reaffirmed embassy’s readiness to work together with travel writers to market Ethiopian tourist destinations, with business group to cement business and investment ties between the two countries.
The highlight of the evening was the ceremonial cake cutting, where all dignitaries, including heads of missions and representatives, were invited to the dais. This symbolic gesture reinforced the unity shared among the diplomatic community.
Guests were treated to a delightful assortment of refreshments and a sumptuous dinner, reflecting the rich Ethiopian culinary heritage. The gathering provided a platform for fruitful discussions, networking, and strengthening ties.
The Ethiopian New Year celebration at the Embassy was a testament to the warm and inclusive approach that defines Ethiopia’s diplomatic engagement.
