Diplomatist: When you joined Noida International University, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved over time, and how far along are you in implementing that vision?
Prof. (Dr.) Uma Bhardwaj: The vision for NIU is to foster an inclusive and transformative educational environment. The university envision that prioritizes academic excellence, innovation, and research, empowering students to become critical thinkers and global citizens. With a commitment to equity and diversity, our aim is to create a supportive community where all individuals have equal opportunities to thrive. The university ensures to enhance inter-disciplinary research, strong industry partnerships sustainable practices, and outcomes of education through collaboration with all stakeholders.
Diplomatist: You have a very rich background in corporate, teaching and research sectors. How do you plan to utilise that in your present capacity?
Prof. (Dr.) Uma Bhardwaj: After what I have accumulated in my professional career my vision for NIU is to establish and nurture an academic environment that is characterized by excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. My endeavour would be to cultivate a culture of intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, inspiring students to reach their full potential and become lifelong learners. We also want to team up with exceptional faculty members who are dedicated to delivering high-quality education and mentoring students. We also have state-of-the-art facilities and resources that support cutting-edge research, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. I strongly feel that a university must actively engage with the local and global community, leveraging its expertise and research capabilities to address societal challenges and contribute to social progress.
Diplomatist: What kind of infrastructure can students expect at your university? What are you doing to ensure that the induction of new students is truly world-class?
Prof. (Dr.) Uma Bhardwaj: NIU has a decent Infrastructure with a land area of 75 acres. NIU is one of the largest, lush green campus in the whole NCR region. The campus is strategically located near Yamuna Express Way and the eastern peripheral expressway which is the ideal location for the student.
The university is well equipped with required Labourites like, the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and entrepreneurial ship cell, Research and development cell and Intellectual property cell, to support and commercialize the innovative ideas of the students for startups. Other Facilities like Library, Sports, Hostel, transport, ATM, Hospital, Gymnasium, Cafeteria, etc. are all well placed. The University has 50+ National and international collaborations.
International students from 40+ countries are studying at NIU. The university ensures that cultural diversity is established in the university by celebrating many of the cultural activities related to various countries. The university pays a lot of emphasises on student clubs which are academic and non-academic in nature are organised under the leadership of students.
Diplomatist: What potential trends and advancements do you foresee in the Indian education sector?
Prof. (Dr.) Uma Bhardwaj: The entire gamut of the higher education setup in India is changing at a rapid rate, firstly delivering students a targeted learning is of utmost importance. Secondly, a greater emphasis on skill-based and industry-relevant education programs to bridge the gap between academia and employment. Thirdly, an expansion of international collaborations and partnerships fosters global exposure and mobility for students and faculty.
The NEP 2020 is the new guiding light that will provide a holistic approach towards accessing students based on aptitude not merely academics. Education 4.0 need to be aligned with industry 4.0.
Diplomatist: What are some plans that you are currently designing for NIU international affairs and/or students?
Prof. (Dr.) Uma Bhardwaj: I want to assure my students that we are committed to providing them with a nurturing and intellectually stimulating environment. Our dedicated faculty members are here to guide and support you throughout your educational endeavour. For international students, we are offering 50% scholarship. We believe in the power of knowledge to transform lives, and we are dedicated to equipping you with the skills and insights necessary for success in your chosen fields. We have collaborated with 30+ universities across the globe and developed an exchange program.
