Interview: H.E. Mr. Héctor Cueva Jácome, Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador to India

H.E. Mr. Héctor Cueva Jácome is the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador to India since July, 2018 and is also GRULAC Coordinator since 2019. He has earlier served as the Consul General and Head of ProEcuador Office of the Republic of Ecuador in Mumbai. Ambassador Cueva has been living in India since 2013 and has extensively travelled in more than 36 cities of India. Ambassador Cueva is a true cinephile and is in love with Bollywood. He likes Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. Recently, Ambassador Cueva indulged in some fun conversation with our Business Editor, Ms. Kanchi Batra. Here’s what he said.

Q. How did you spend your lockdown days? What’s your favourite memory?

I spent at home working and writing a special project for Ecuadorian smart cities.

Q. What kind of music do you like listening to?

I like French, Classic, and Latin music.

Q. One thing you love about India?

Everything.  Especially, Indian people.

Q. What is your favourite type of vacation?

To relax and explore the local gastronomy.

Q. Do you like sports? If so, what are some of your favourite sports?

I like Padel which is a racquet sport that combines the elements of tennis, squash and badminton. It is very popular in Spain, Argentina and in my country.

Q. Who would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?

Jejejeje. In a deserted island, I don’t know. But for sure in a rural area with all the services, and it can be fantastic if I have family and some friends.

Q. What does your perfect day look like?

Practice yoga at 6 AM, take breakfast at 7:30, go to take care of my plants (Tomatoes, Lettuce and Broccolis), take a healthy lunch, go and take a walk on the beach, swim, practice Padel in the night, see the stars and read.

Q. How would your friends describe you?

A simple person.

Q. If you could change one thing about your personality, what would it be?

I wouldn’t change my personality; maybe I can change a habit.

Q. How do you deal with stress?

I meditate.

Q. If you had to get a tattoo right now, what tattoo would you choose?

OM

Q. What TV show could you watch over and over again?

All kinds of historical documentaries.

Q. If you had to curate the soundtrack to your life, what songs would be on there?

Songs of The Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac. I love La bohème and La Vie En Rose.

Q. If you could eat one thing for dinner every day, what would it be?

Watermelon.

Q. If you could rid the world of one disease what would it be?

Of course, Cancer.

Q. If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

Have a lot of money and power and to share all this money and power with the poorest.

Q. Which app do you use the most on your phone?

WhatsApp 

Q. Do you cook often?

Very often, Ecuadorian cuisine.

Q. What would be the tagline to the sitcom of your life?

Be better, to serve better

Q. Which piece of clothing do you no longer wear but can’t throw away?

A piece of shorts.

Q. If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?

What is the best path to achieve full happiness?

Q. What phobia do you have?

No phobias 

Q. If you were reincarnated as an animal, what would you be?

I would come back as an Elephant.

Q. Do you believe in horoscopes?

No

Q. What did you binge watch recently?

Netflix 

Q. What superstitions do you believe in?

I don’t believe in superstitions. I believe in the fact that if you are an honest and humble person, good things will happen in your life.
