COVID-19 Pandemic in India

Since the coronavirus outbreak from the wild markets of Wuhan city in China, more than 137,882 cases were reported together with 5,080 deaths around the world. Over 100 countries have now reported laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 virus, countries like Iran, Italy and South Korea are heavily impacted by the outbreak.

Till now, there have been 80 cases reported in India. This figure includes 16 Italian tourists and people coming from the Gulf and European countries. The Indian government have been airlifting Indian nationals from disease affected prone countries like Iran and China. There’s growing anxiety in the Indian society, especially in the metropolitan cities. Citizens are taking all necessary measures to prevent the infection and stockpiling the mask and sanitisers. Schools have been shut in the national capital and other institutions are sending out advisories, a few offices have shut temporarily after employees tested positive for Covid-19. Many public facilities and gatherings are avoided. Several flagship events have been cancelled, the outgoing visits of Indian delegates along with the India-EU Summit in Brussels is been rescheduled. The biggest cricket event in the world, Indian Premier league’s date has also been rescheduled.

Suspected coronavirus cases have been reported in multiple cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Patna. The foreign ministry has issued a travel advisory to the Indian citizens and advised them to refrain from unnecessary travel.
